Should I go to a new optometrist? Can I wear contacts?
The optometrist I regularly go to had diagnosed me with astigmatism about a year ago and prescribed me glasses. Now, almost a year later, I've noticed how much of a hassle it is for me to wear glasses all day everyday, especially when it comes to playing sports. My Optometrist has told me that I cannot wear contact lenses because I only have astigmatism in half of my eye... Honestly, Ive never heard of such a thing so I don't know what to do. I've researched the situation but have not seen any results that have to do with my question. But I'm wondering, can I be able to wear contacts even if I have moderate astigmatism?Should I go to a new doctor and see what they recommend?

Do optometrists test their own eyes?
Lol, just a random question I've been thinking about... Because surely an optometrist wouldn't go to another optometrist to pay for something they can do themself? Or do they?Ohh haha, yes of course, I forgot about the refraction and slit lamp. What if they get a colleague to do it then?

Did my optometrist make a mistake? - Brand and CYL changed?
I moved and found a new optometrist to get my annual eye exam and order new contact lenses. I received the contacts and after about 1 week couldn't wear them anymore due to extreme irritation I've worn contacts for 10 years . The eye doctor told me I was probably wearing them too much so I tried not wearing them for several days but as soon as I put them in the irritation was back. After trial and error, I decided the problem was the contacts and switched to a new pair. For one week everything was good and I decided I must have damaged the first pair somehow. Now one week later I again have extreme irritation when I try to put them in I used to wear my contacts for 6 weeks & they cost $40 per pair so changing them after one week is an issue .In contemplating putting a new pair of contacts in I noted that the prescription and contact type I had received was different than what I have worn for the last 6 years. I knew my eye doctor upped my strength from 6.00 to 6.25, but the Cylinder measurement had changed as well as the contact model for lack of a better word . I don't know how significant these changes are for my eye or if they could be causing the issue. Looking for a little input before I go to the eye doctor again and risk looking completely crazy.Old Cooper Vision Hydrasoft BC 8.9 DIAM 15.0 SPH 6.00 CYL 1.00 AX 045New Cooper Vision HydrasoftXWBC 8.9 DIAM 15.0 SPH 6.25 CYL 1.75 AX 045CORRECTIONOld Cooper Vision Hydrasoft ToricBC 8.9 DIAM 15.0 SPH 6.00 CYL 1.00 AX 045New Cooper Vision Hydrasoft ToricXWBC 8.9 DIAM 15.0 SPH 6.25 CYL 1.75 AX 045

How does an optometrist determine if a child needs glasses?
Im just wondering how they determine it with a small child who cant talk? What do they look for? Can they even determine whether a child is just near or farsighted?Thank you.

Is my optometrist trying to take advantage of me?
I just had an eye exam and my prescription is Right .25 .5 x 163Left .5 .5 x 50He told me to wear them all the time. Does that sound right? Should I even bother filling this prescription since it's so minor?

Question about becoming an optometrist?
i am a junior in high school and i really want to be an optometrist. if i make A's and B's in high school will it be hard for me to get into an Optometry school? i plan on majoring in biology in college. what other classes would i need?

Hi! I received my new prescription from my optometrist 3 weeks ago.?
I decided to buy a new pair of glasses a week ago, and I picked them up today. I discovered that it was blurry but was told by the optician that adjusting to new glasses is customary. After trying to adjust to the glasses all morning and afternoon, I figured there must be something wrong. Therefore I dug up my old prescription and compared it with my new one. Everything seemed normal until I hit the axis column. The old prescription states that the axis was 180, and the new one says 90. I was told that this was highly irregular and probably a mistake by the optician. Is this correct? I also found out that my insurance does not cover two eye exams a year, which I need in order to get a correct prescription to fix my new expensive glasses. Since the prescription was the optometrist's fault, should I be able to request coverage on a new eye exam? Thank you for reading

Does your optometrist charge you for trial contacts?
Mine's trying to charge me $25 for shipping. The first brand didn't fit well and moves around. Not sure if he is ripping me off

What are the concave and convex cylinder lenses optometrists use for?

Becoming an optometrist? ?
I love Science a lot. I'm fascinated with how eyes work. I really want to become an optometrist. Everywhere I look on the Internet people say it's a bad career choice. I don't understand. I mean yeah I'm sure it's hard to find jobs but it not easy to find any right now at least where I'm at. Add any other information about becoming one if you would like.

Can i leave my optometrist?
Ive been seeing this optometrist for over twenty years and he's very good but his receptionists are so woefully stupid and incompetent, amongst many other things, they've got my contact lens order wrong, they now refuse to co operate with the company i want to buy lenses from and ive just had enough. The only thing im not sure about is whether i need to obtain anything from my current optometrist to give to my new one and can i leave my current one even tho ive yet to select a new one? Thanks in advance for any answers

Do we have too many optometrists?
I was just about to start community college, then later go into optometry, but, Ive been looking around, and is it true that the market is over saturated with optometrists? Like it would be impossible to find a decent paying job, let alone open my own private practice. Also id be 150K in debt.
