Ophthalmologists

Different eye prescriptions from different ophthalmologists?
My eye power was 4.25, in 2009.A check at a specs store showed it to be 4.5 L & 4.75 R in March 2011. Got new specs and by September I had sharp shooting pain in both eyes. All around eye sockets. Became chronic by December.Visited a private ophthalmologist Jan 2012 who charged Rs.400 for consultation and checked my eye for 6 5 vision and prescribed lenses of 5.5 for both eyes. I didn't buy new specs as I suspected something wrong.Visited a medical college Jan 2012 where the ophthalmologist did the checkup for free, placed lenses in front of my eyes and shone a light into my eye when I could read the letters. He diagonised the eye as 4.5 and prescribed 4.25 lenses and for the first time in my life I was also prescribed cylindrical correction of 0.25.Wearing my old 4.25 lenses have stopped the eye strain, but I'm surprised at the totally different diagnosis at the three places. Your opinion? The private ophthalmologist said that lenses should never be undercorrected. The med college ophthalmologist says lenses should be undercorrected, otherwise there will be strain while reading.Who is correct? Why was he shining a light into my eyes? What do they check that way?p.s lenses with power 4 and lenses with power 4.75 are causing eye strain.

How do ophthalmologists relate to optometrists...?
Do opthalmologists have a high opinion of their optometrist counterparts as optometrists are NOT physicians and never went to medical school? Frank Awesome information If you happen to have a link to the study that quotes those figures or happen to have a reference to where I could find it, it would be much appreciated... Thank you so much

Are there any ophthalmologists (eye doctors) here who believe in evolution?
After studying the human eye and after treating humans with eye problems, do you believe that the human eye is a product of evolution? The structure and operation are so complex that a genius engineer could not have designed it.

Questions about a corneal transplant patient? (Only ophthalmologists or specialists)?
So my mom had a corneal transplant this morning and she has a couple of questions.1. Can she take Ambien tonight?2. Does she have to sleep with her head upright? She got the transplant at 11 00 AM if I'm not mistaken and I think she has a patch to cover her eye up. I haven't seen her so I'm not sure.

Will optometrists run ophthalmologists out of business now they have won rights to surgery?
Like that optometrist in Kansas who can now perform the many surgeries that were only restricted to ophthalmologists? So I guess opthalmologists might as well change their specialties, or be ran out of business as more and more states grant permission to optometrists to perform surgery?

Are ophthalmologists better with vision testing than Pearle Vision eye doctors?
I'm currently 25 years old and I used to go to this eye doctor at Pearle Vision because I'm near sighted. Every two year I go to her for checkup and she ALWAYS changes the prescription each time I go. She claims my vision is getting slightly worse overtime, so she needs to make the prescription a little stronger so I can see a little better. I have a nice collection of old glasses because she's always changing the prescription every two years. Well, after my last prescription with her got me dizzy and she got cranky on me because I questioned the prescription, I decided to go to an ophthalmologist the following year. He was very highly recommended by my physician. When I went to him, he had to change the prescription a little bit and oddly enough, it was very different than what the Pearle Vision doctor prescribed. So I got another new pair of glasses that year. Now, two years later, I went to back to this ophthalmologist for my checkup and guess what? He said everything is ok and there was no change on my prescription. So, I get to continue wearing the same glasses that he prescribed two year ago.I was shocked that for the first time in over a decade, I've never had a change in my prescription. When I told my friend about it, he told me that the reason why that Pearle Vision eyedoctor kept changing my prescription is because they just want to make money since she works at Pearle Vision and they're in the business of selling eyeglasses. Since ophthalmologists don't make money selling glasses, they're not going to change the prescription if it's not necessary. Is my friend right? Is it better that I go to an ophthalmologist now rather than one of those Pearle Vision eye doctors?

Serious (somewhat complicated) question for OPHTHALMOLOGISTS!?
Alright, so... this question might be a little long in response but, currently I am doing my basics at Texas A& M... next semester I am going to be taking my science which I believe will be biology because I'm pretty sure that is what most pre med students need. Why I need ophthalmologists to answer this question is because they have already gone through what I hope to be going through... I am on my way to being an ophthalmologist and I just need literally like a full outline of what I'm going to have to do.... what I mean by that is... I know that I have to get a pre med first as an undergrad and I know that I have to get all my basics... but then what? What courses do I have to take as a pre med student? And then where do I go from there? This is what confuses me... after I get my pre med for undergrad or whatever, do I go on to a graduate program and then medical school, or vice versa? For graduate school I don't even know where to begin thinking about what I am supposed to do... what is my first step? What really am I trying to get to in grad school? I'm so confused can someone please help...
